In-School Performances provide children an up-close and interacive encounter with the instruments of a string quartet. These peformances are geared for audiences of fewer than 200 students and last about 45-minutes in length. The Academy Faculty Quartet offers the following In-School Performances: Pictures at an Exhibition The Academy Faculty Quartet will perform four arranged selections from Mussorgsky's vibrant orchestral showpiece, based upon an exhibit of paintings by Vikto Hartmann. In past performances, students have listened to a recording of the music and created their own art work to be displayed at the performance, generating their own, personal connections between the visual and musical arts. The Planets The Academy Faculty Quartet will perform three arranged selections from Holst's classic The Planets, a musical suite portraying seven celestial bodies of our solar system. The quartet will also perform an original composition illustrating Earth, prompting discussion about the creative process. This program is designed to provide connections between art and science subjects. All In-School Performances include a question and answer session with students.
