Philharmonic Orchestra

Intermediate to advanced players will have the opportunity to audition in the fall and spring for placement in the Philharmonic Orchestra.

Requirements:

String players must be able to play in third position, as well as demonstrate vibrato and a variety of bowings. Woodwind and brass players must display an intermediate level of proficiency in two octave scales, rhythmic complexity, fingering and embouchure control. The fall semester will consist of strings only; brass, percussion, and woodwinds will be added in January. (Auditions for brass, percussion, and woodwinds will be held in December.)

Minimum Playing Experience Requirements:

  • String players, three years; brass, woodwind, and percussion players, two years.
  • The Philharmonic Orchestra will perform two concerts during the school year. Audition required.

Recommended string player ability levels:

  • Suzuki book 4–6
  • Shifting through 5th position for 1st violins, 3rd position for 2nd violins and violas, 4th position and harmonics for cellos, 5th position and harmonics for basses
  • Keys of C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb

A full rehearsal/concert schedule will be available at the first rehearsal.
All Rehearsals and Performances are held at the The Temple for Performing Arts.

NOTE: Tuition to Youth Symphonies may be paid in 2 equal installments.
