As the Des Moines Symphony Academy Beginning Strings Program continues to grow, we find ourselves needing more classrooms! At the beginning of our Fall 2019 semester, we opened our newest satellite location at Franklin Junior High. With the addition of four classrooms in this building, we are now able to serve over 75 students in our Beginning Strings Program. The Beginning Strings Program is now housed in five locations – The Temple for Performing Arts, Franklin Junior High, The Goddard School, Creative Center for Young Children, and Plymouth Nursery School.

The Beginning Strings Program provides young, aspiring musicians with their first instructional experience on violin, viola or cello. Beginning Strings classes are offered for musicians as young as 4 years of age. Classes are offered in four semesters yearly—Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each 9-week semester consists of weekly 45-minute classes culminating in a large group class taking place during the tenth week.

We are excited to make a home in this historic Des Moines location!
