This vibrant and inspiring film tells the true story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges—an extraordinary violinist, composer and fencer who rose to prominence in 18th-century Paris. Before the screening, Des Moines Symphony Concertmaster Jonathan Sturm will offer historical insight into Saint-Georges’ remarkable life, his influence on classical music and his connection to Mozart and the French court. Sturm will also share live musical excerpts from the era, bringing the sound world of Chevalier to life and deepening the audience’s connection to this remarkable and often-overlooked composer.
