Copland & Vivaldi

Copland & Vivaldi

Des Moines Symphony musicians Andrew Bishop and Andrew Classen feature in Vivaldi’s sparkling Concerto for Two Trumpets, plus Copland’s idyllic Appalachian Spring

Our November concert opens with Handel’s majestic Entrance of the Queen of Sheba from Solomon and Pulitzer Prize-winning African-American composer George Walker’s serene Lyric for Strings. Principal Trumpet Andrew Bishop and Second Trumpet Andrew Classen feature in Vivaldi’s sparkling, brilliant Concerto for Two Trumpets; finally, Copland’s idyllic, inspiring Appalachian Spring. This Pulitzer Prize-winning composition evokes images of open fields and endless possibilities, finding peace and tranquility in “the valley of love and delight.”
